Is Eight Enough?
For those looking to have their first trek/paddle/bike adventure race experience and for others who want to hone their skills in a sprint format race, the 8 hour Maine Summer Adventure Race is a perfect distance. Staying within daylight for the duration of the race, the 8 hour format allows racers to carry less and move faster. The difficulty ratchets up a bit from the 3 hour version, but still stays clear of the challenges of racing over night. This format is also extremely popular for crossover athletes from sports like triathlon and ultra running.

This year’s race presented the opportunity for experienced navigators to clear the course, so the results ultimately came down to time. Setting a blistering pace, solo racer Kit Vreeland flew through the course in a time of just 4 hours and 34 minutes, taking home the overall win with time to spare. Hot on her heels and taking second place was father and son team Ultra Bambi who came in at just over 5 hours.
