The Three Hour Adventure

While the Maine Summer Adventure Race’s 24 hour edition is certainly the premier event of the weekend, and the 8 hour race is geared towards moving forward in the sport, the 3 hour race is pure intro-level fun for all ages. Teams of friends and families young and old, nearly 100 racers in total, took to a portion of the same course that the elite teams will tackle. This condensed course is designed to give participants a low risk introduction to the sport of adventure racing. The checkpoints are mostly on trails, with just a few challenging locations for ambitious teams. All points are optional and teams may take as much (or as little) of the 3 hour time limit as they choose. Teams have a chance to get a feel for the sport, without committing to something like an extended overnight off trail bikewhack that many of the 24 hour racers will be facing.

The 3 hour race today was a fun afternoon in the woods for everyone today. If you’ve ever taken a hike for an afternoon in the summer, you’re ready for this race. Make sure you sign up early next year though before it sells out.
